Pune: It was an unusual day at the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate at Premlok Park area of Chinchwad on January 26. Police Commissioner Krishna Prakash and his entire team was waiting for the 'Police Commissioner' to arrive and when her car arrived at the commissionerate Krishna Prakash received her..

A few moments later the 'Police Commissioner' received guard of honour and salutations from the Pimpri Chinchwad Police. The 'Police Commissioner' for the day was none other than a visually impaired girl Reena Patil who was honoured on the Republic Day.

Jyoti Mane - a single mother - and Divyanshu Tamchikar - a bright student from the local area - also received the honours as they took upon the role of 'Additional Commissioner of Police' and 'Deputy Commissioner of Police' respectively for the day on the 72nd Republic Day.

Reena 'took charge' as 'Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner' and she was 'saluted' by Krishna Prakash. Jyoti occupied the chair of 'Additional Commissioner of Police' and was 'saluted' by Ramnath Pokale. Divyanshu took charge as 'Deputy Commissioner of Police' and Sudhir Hiremath 'saluted' him.

Explaining the reason behind this initiative, Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Krishna Prakash said, "Citizens follow and revere the constitution of the country which is why our country is progressing. We are proud of our democracy and this constitution has given us the powers to govern for people. We want all citizens, especially the weaker sections, to realise and be aware of their legal rights. To express solidarity with all such people we had planned this initiative on Republic Day."

Reena, overjoyed with the 'power' and 'position' she got for the day said, “I had never thought in my life that I will be honoured by the police department. I had heard about the good work done by police department but now I have experienced it personally."

Jyoti said, "I have had really bad experience from the society after the death of my husband. I had to take care of my girl child despite all the challenges that I had to face in my life. I always felt the support of police department which has increased my morale and spirit to fight against the evil in the society. I appeal to all women to seek help of police department if they face any problem."

Divyanshu expressed his wish to become a police officer when he grows up.
