PUNE: According to the Khadakwasla Irrigation Circle, current water level in Khadakwasla, Temghar, Panshet and Varasgaon dams is 5.17 Thousand Million Cubic ft (TMC) and it is 3 TMC less than the water levels last year. Last year around the same time there was 8.11 TMC water.

However, the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Water Supply Department claimed the authorities have issued directives t save water by stopping activities like washing vehicles, gardening and construction.

The civic authorities are planning to create awareness through social media as well.

As per the Irrigation Department official, the current level of water is enough to cater to the city’s needs till July 15.

However, the official said that the PMC should supply water every alternate day on the same lines as Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The official added that civic body needs to take more steps to save water.

While speaking to Sakal Times, Pravin Gedam, Superintendent Engineer of PMC Water Supply Department said, “I have already issued directives to save water by stopping activities like washing vehicles, gardening and construction activities. Now, we will spread awareness about saving water through posters and social media. We will put up posters and banners in housing societies on how to save water.”
