PUNE: With persistent monsoon, the water level in Khadakwasla dam had increased to 100 per cent on Thursday morning and subsequently, 3,424 cusecs of water was released from the dam in Mutha river on Thursday afternoon.
The total water level of all four dams - Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon and Temghar has increased up to 12.03 Thousand Million Cubic (TMC) or 41.27 per cent by Thursday evening. This is 1.31 TMC more than the same time last year which was around 10.72 TMC or 36.80 per cent.
According to the Irrigation Department, the catchment area of the four dams received 164 mm of rainfall on Thursday, Temghar Dam received 95 mm of rain, while Varasgaon and Panshet received rainfall of 37 mm and 29 mm respectively. Khadakwasala received 3 mm of rain.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) draws about 1.4 TMC water every month and about 16 TMC in a year. With the current water level of 12.03 TMC, there will be a supply of water for next 10 months. If rainfall continues in the same manner, it is likely that all dams will be full by the end of July.
The total capacity of all four dams is 29.15 TMC.
