PUNE: A woman was arrested by Chakan police for extorting money from locals after threatening them of filing complaints of molestation.

The woman was identified as Sangeeta Wankhede, a resident of Chakan who was arrested by police on Thursday.

According to Chakan police, Wankhede extorted money from more than a dozen people by threatening them with molestation charges. Her modus operandi was to lure people into her trap by talking to them and then threatening them with a complaint of molestation against them.

A Chakan-based social organisation also informed the police about the activities of Wankhede in the past and demanded her arrest.
