Woman loses Rs 78K in debit card swap

Pune: In a case of debit card swapping, a 61-year-old woman lost Rs 78,000 after a youth swapped his State Bank of India (SBI) debit card on Thursday (May 23), at an SBI ATM kiosk in Alandi. The victim, Salimabi Inamdar had lodged a case at Alandi police station. 

According to the Alandi police, the victim had gone in the ATM to withdraw some cash when the fraudster youth also reached the ATM. The youth then tried to help the victim in withdrawing cash from the ATM.

The youth then swapped the debit card from Salimabi. Later, when the victim lodged a complaint at the police station, the police found that the accused youth has used the card to withdraw Rs 40,000 cash from a Cosmos Bank ATM and Maharashtra Bank ATM in Koregaon Bhima. 

The accused also bought gold ornaments of Rs 38,518 from a jewellery shop in Koregaon Bhima. The Alandi police are investigating the case.
