Pune: Non-communicable diseases are increasing globally and contributing to 60 per cent of total mortality. To address this rapidly increasing concern, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) organised a training workshop at BJ Government Medical College (BJGMC) and Sassoon General Hospital.

The workshop was inaugurated on Wednesday. The aim of the workshop was to include a sustainable developmental goal and reduce 1/3rd the burden of non-communicable diseases by 2030 as compared to the scenario of 2015.

Dean of BJGMC, Dr Ajay Chandanwale appreciated the initiative taken by ICMR and BJGMC during the inaugural speech. A total 35 trainees were enrolled in this workshop. The trainees include research associates, medical social workers, field workers and lab technicians. A total country is divided into 10 zones and a national level survey for India will be done using World Health Organisation (WHO) three-step strategy.

Along with BJGMC, Project Staff of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan were also present to discuss critical issues. Dr Murlidhar Tambe, Dr Arun Kowale,
Dr Mangesh Bankar, Dr Susmita Bhattacharya, Dr Shashikala Sangle, Dr Vandna Dube, Dr Harshal Salve from AIIMS Delhi, Dr Pankaja Raghav from AIIMS Jodhpur, Dr Sangita Shelake, Dr Nandkumar Salunke and Dr Shital Patil were present.
