Pune: Citing the need for going digital and using computers under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, the Poona Merchants Chamber has demanded the withdrawal of load shedding at the grain market in Market Yard on Thursdays.

In a press note from the chamber, President Pravin Chorbele has requested the concerned authorities to withdraw load shedding for at least the traders for whom the use of computers in necessary to maintain records. “Due to load shedding at Market Yard on Thursdays, the traders, consumers as well as transporters are wasting a lot of time in the absence of electricity. to run computers. Not all traders have the access to inverters or power back up,” he has stated.

“The entire trade in the market suffers due to the unavailability of electricity. For the implementation of a tax like GST, uninterrupted power supply is a necessity. GST is being rolled out from July 1 and so we request the authorities to look into the matter and reconsider load shedding at least for grain market traders on Thursdays,” he stated. 

Seminar on GST

Just ahead of the roll-out of GST, a PCMC-based financial consultancy is organising a free seminar on ‘Gearing up for GST’ on June 29.
The seminar will be inaugurated by Joint Commissioners of Sales Tax, Pune, Shaukatali Shaikh and SP Kale. Deputy Commissioners of Sales Tax, Pune, Pradnya Pande and VC Chandegave and Sales Tax Officer Ramchandra Umrani will provide guidance during the session.
The seminar will be held at Manohar Sabhagruha at Jnana Prabodhini School, Nigdi from 10 am to 1 pm.
