‘Most underprivileged are not aware of govt schemes’

Pune: The Sahayya Ek Khidki Kendra and Centre for Advocacy and Research (CFAR), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) will be requesting the District Legal Services Authority to intervene between the State government and the underprivileged, asking the government to hold awareness programmes and conduct enrollment drives for its schemes.

Community messengers of Sahayya Ek Khidki Kendra have made a community report card of the schemes provided for the underprivileged women and physically challenged staying in Vishrantwadi and Yerawada slums. They found out that these people are not aware of these schemes. While speaking at a press conference, Pramod Gogawale, state project coordinator of CFAR, said, “We are working towards helping the underprivileged women and physically challenged persons of Vishrantwadi and Yerawada slums to make them aware about the government schemes and benefits from it.

There are 11 settlements in these two prominent areas and a total of 55 people including women and physically challenged involved with us.”

Sunanda Kharat, a community messenger of Sahayya Ek Khidki Kendra, said, “We have made a community report card on the basis of the findings that are people from slums are not aware of the government schemes. The schemes including ration card, mudra loan, Sanjay Gandhi pension scheme, artificial limbs and finance to rehabilitate handicapped and other such schemes which are unknown to the people 
of the slums.”

“We will be requesting and urging the District Legal Services Authority to intervene so that the government could hold awareness and enrollment drives for easy access of the government schemes for the people,” said Kharat.
