‘Passengers must be aware of their rights’

PUNE: Principal District Judge, Pune, SM Modak has asked railway passengers to be aware of their rights and responsibilities and help the judiciary and railway administration.

He was speaking at an event organised by the District Law Service Authority, Railway Court, Pune Division Rail Administration and District Railway Police, on Friday.

He said, “Passengers have to follow rules while travelling by train and avoid punitive action. Crossing railway line, illegally selling various things, travelling without a valid railway ticket and not buying a platform ticket are offenses. Railway users have to follow the Railway Act and avoid punitive action.”

Milind Deouskar, DRM, Pune, said, “It has been observed that many times while driving vehicles, mostly when in a hurry, drivers break the barricades at a railway gate, which causes losses amounting to lakhs of rupees.”

PR Astukar, Secretary, District Law Service Authority, Sanjay Sahare, Railway Judge, D Vikas, Railway Security Commissioner, Dr Prabhakar Budhwant, SP, GRP and SK Das, Railway Commercial Manager, were also present.
