Pune: Pune-based youngster Aryaman Singh wrapped up 2017 on a high by finishing in Top 5 at the US Kids Golf World Championship held in Malaysia from December 12 to 15.

In the Boys 10 category, Aryaman wrapped up the tournament with a fifth-place finish after playing three days of 18 holes.
The tournament is the international version of US Kids Golf, an annual event held for junior golfers between the ages of 5 and 18.

The Top 5 players in each category qualify to play at the European Championships in Scotland.

This was the sixrh year running that the event was held at the three championship courses of the Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort. Junior golfers were up against a field 300 youngsters from 26 nations including United States, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Philippines, India, Japan, Kenya, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, Canada, China, Great Britain and France.

The first junior golfer from the West Zone to have a Top 5 finish at the World Championship, Aryaman competed at the Village Course, of the Tanjong Puteri Resort.

Considered as a professional’s challenge course, the distinctiveness of this 18-hole Championship Course is its difficulty. Thirteen out of the eighteen holes of the “Village” course have water bodies bordering their fairways or greens, and most greens are surrounded on multiple sides by unforgiving bunkers.

The high point of Aryaman’s round was shooting the third lowest score in his category on Day 1 of the tournament, and wrapping up the tournament with a birdie on the 18th hole.
