Ashwin rallies to stun 8th seed Jay

PUNE: Ashwin Narsinghani rallied from one set down to upset eighth-seeded Jay Pawar 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 to enter the second round of the boy’s event in the 31st edition of Pravin Trophy National Ranking Tennis tournament at the Hill Side Gymkhana tennis courts in Bibvewadi on Monday.

Fourth seed Anshul Satav also survived a scare before getting past Arnav Kokane 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. The day also one more close contest where Azmeer Shaikh fought hard to clinch the first set 7-6 (6-4). In the second set, Arnav rallied back to take it 3-6. In the decider, Azmeer held nerves to win it 6-4.

The top seed, Manas Dhamne did not face any trouble to advance into the second round as he defeated Ved Thakur 6-2, 6-1.
