Baner-based Satej Club Pune wins Mayors Cup kabaddi title

SPORTS REPORTER

Pune: Baner-based Satej Club, Pune, and Shivshakti Club, Mumbai, won the Men’s and Women’s titles in the Mayor’s Cup Kabaddi championship, which concluded at the SP College ground here over the weekend.

Akshay Jadhav’s all-round play saw Satej Club snap up the Men’s title beating Shahu Sadoli of Kolhapur 38-30. It was a tight contest right from the start, but Siddhesh Desai’s crucial raid points and Jadhav’s all-round play meant Kolhapur team, which nonetheless took the second half 19-14, had to settle for the runners-up trophy.

In the women’s tournament, Shivshakti Club rode on Reskha Sawant and Apeksha Takle’s show to beat Shiv Om 25-22 in yet another close contest.

Rekha played her defence to the hilt, while Apeksha raided and earned points, while Shiv Om club had to depend on Sonali Salunke’s game, but only just.
