Elsewhere, Manchester City also advanced, battling past League One's Huddersfield Town with a 2-0 win. Manager Pep Guardiola started Phil Foden, who scored the first goal from outside the area and set up the second for Savinho. City's win comes during a busy period of six games in 18 days across three different competitions.

Newcastle United began their title defense convincingly with a 4-1 home win over Bradford City. Joelinton and William Osula each scored twice at St James' Park to secure the victory. Joelinton ended a nine-month goal drought with his first-half strike, and Osula doubled the lead soon after. Despite a late consolation goal for Bradford, Osula restored the three-goal advantage for Eddie Howe's side.

Tottenham Hotspur also cruised into the next round, defeating Doncaster 3-0. The highlight of their victory was Joao Palhinha’s spectacular overhead kick goal. An own goal soon after doubled Tottenham's lead, and Brennan Johnson sealed the result with a third goal in stoppage time.

Following the third-round matches, the draw for the last 16 set up four all-Premier League matchups: Newcastle United will continue their title defense at home to Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal will host Brighton, Liverpool will play Crystal Palace, and Wolverhampton will face Chelsea. The draw also features two Welsh rivals, with Wrexham set to play Cardiff at home, and Swansea drawn against Manchester City.
