India vs England: Virat Kohli and co will aim to book WTC final spot

Akshay Badwe

Ahmedabad: The fourth and the final Test of the four-match series between India and England will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from today (Thursday).

Both the top teams are all set to play the final test at newly constructed Motera Stadium. Talking about the hosts, spinners are looking unplayable at the moment. Both Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel have done a great job for the team in the series. With Rohit Sharma back in his own avatar, India seems pretty decent in the batting lineup. Virat and co will need only a draw (or a win) in the final Test to qualify and take on New Zealand in the final of the ICC World Test Championship at iconic Lord’s.

On the other part, the visitors started the series with an incredible win of 227 runs in Chennai but could not continue their form and lost two consecutive Tests. Their chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship Final at their homeland seems dusted. England’s poor batting is so far considered as the reason to lose both the Test matches.

Talking about the pitch, it is expected to be unquestionably similar to the one used in the third Test. Batsmen will find it easier to bat in the early stages but then the bowlers may come into the line. The team winning the toss should bat first.

PROBABLE LINEUPS

India: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (c), Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav

England: Dom Sibley, Zak Crawley, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root (c), Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope, Ben Foakes (wk), Dom Bess, Jack Leach, Jofra Archer, James Anderson
