Jaipur Univ beat Ahilya Devi College, Indore

PUNE: Jaipur university thrashed Ahilya Devi Vishwavidyalaya Indore 33-5 to score a resounding win in Group A of West Zone Inter University Handball tournament here on Wednesday.

The tournament is organised by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and is hosted by Chandrashekhar Agashe College.

Rekha Chauhan and Rekha Chaudhary sparkled for Jaipur with 9 goals each, while they were ably supported by Meena Jyoti. Shaijal Gehlot’s four goals went in vain for the defeated Indore team.

In day’s another game in Group B, Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education Gwalior beat Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University 19-12 in a keenly contested match. Leading 9-6 at half time, the Gwalior team maintained their lead in the second half as they played defensively sound match. Anjali Yadav (8 goals) And Saroj Gangwar (6 goals) helped their team maintain the victory margin.

In Group C, hosts Savitribai Phule Pune University sneaked past Maharaja Ganga Singh University Bikaner 23-20. Pooja Dhamal and Monali Harpale dominated the proceedings and scored 15 out of Pune’s 23 goals to ensure the home side’s win.

While in the last group, Tukdoji Maharaj University Nagpur brushed aside Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University 43-16 to make it to the next round.
