Kishan’s 33-ball ton not enough: Padikkal’s 147 steals the show in record chase for Karnataka

Despite Jharkhand posting a massive 412 for nine, Karnataka reached the mark with 15 balls to spare at the Narendra Modi Stadium Ground B.

The match initially belonged to Jharkhand captain Ishan Kishan, who struck a sensational 33-ball century; the second-fastest by an Indian in the format. Entering at number six in the 38th over, Kishan hit 14 sixes to propel his side to the mammoth total of 412. His innings follows a recent India recall and a shift toward a more mature batting style.

Former India batsman Robin Singh, who worked with Kishan at Mumbai Indians, noted that this version of the left-hander "isn’t far from knocking the doors again," highlighting his improved ability to play the situation.

Karnataka responded like no one imagined. Devdutt Padikkal, scored 147 from 118 deliveries, pacing his innings with 10 fours and seven sixes, he ensured the asking rate remained manageable without the team resorting to desperate hitting.

He found steady support through the middle overs from Mayank Agarwal and Abhinav Manohar, who both contributed crucial half-centuries. List-A debutant Dhruv Prabhakar eventually closed out the game with an unbeaten 40, ensuring Karnataka did not lose momentum in the final stages.

While the day saw three centuries scored in under 40 balls across the country, Karnataka’s victory was defined by calculated partnerships rather than a single explosive burst. By keeping wickets in hand and picking specific moments to accelerate, they prevented Jharkhand from reclaiming control of the contest.
