Krida Prabodhini, SNBP enter last eight

PUNE: Pune-based Krida Prabodhini, SNBP Academy along with Madhya Pradesh Hockey Association (MPHA) and Jai Bharat Hockey, Bhiwani, Haryana booked quarter final berths with comfortable wins to top their respective pools in the 3rd SNBP All-India Hockey Tournament (Boys Under-16) at Shiv Chhatrapathi Sports Complex, Balewadi, here on Thursday.

Earlier on Wednesday, Army Boys Sports Company, Bihar and Sports Authority of Gujarat walked into the last 8. In a Pool -D encounter, last year’s third placed Krida Probodhini logged their second win downing Hockey Coorg 11-0. The win was fashioned by Akshay Shende’s four goal effort.

Akshay opened KP’s account in the 2nd minute and added goals in 14th, 30th, 38th minutes. The other scorers were Aditya Lalge and Dhairyashil Jadhav (2 goals each), while Ashok Uargude, Mustafa Shaikh and Prathamesh Hajare netted one each. KP finished with six points.

Hosts SNBP Academy were on song in their Pool-A encounter. They recorded the highest score of the day beating Hockey Dhulia 13-0. Shadab Mohammed had the distinction of scoring a hattrick inside three minutes to lead the way. Thereafter, Naresh Chatole added three more in the 7th, 14th, 45th minutes. Abhishek Mane (2 goals) and a goal each by Pratik Solanki, Nagesh Waghmare, Ajay Gote , Rushikesh Mandale, Abhishek Khalge, completed the tally.

From Pool C, Harayana’s Jai Bharat Hockey, moved to the knockouts with a 5-1 victory over Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA). 

Later, from Pool-B, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Association recorded their second win in as many days putting out Delhi’s Guman Hera Risers 3-1.  

Late on Wednesday, Sports Authority of Gujarat edged out Hockey Sindewahi 1-0 after Gaurang Ambulkar (70th) netted the all-important goal. SAG topped Pool-E.
