Loyola registers first win, downs Modern School

PUNE: Hosts Loyola HS got off the blocks downing Modern High School 1-0 in the inaugural Father Schoch Memorial (Under-14) Inter-School Hockey tournament at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium, Nehrunagar-Pimpri on Tuesday.

In the lone match of the day, Pashan-based Loyola HS struck early via Jai Jamwal (9th minute) who sounded the boards past goalkeeper Atharva Jhaveri.

Loyola went into half time with the slender lead and then went out to play out the next half without conceding and earn their first points after a hreatbreak odd goal in three (1-2) loss to PCMC in their opener.

The win helped Loyola HS open their account in Pool-B. Thus, after completing two encounters Loyola H.S have 3 points in their kitty. PCMC (3 points; 1 match) and Modern (0 points; 1 match) are the other teams who have played in the group. The fourth team is Netaji Subashchandra Bose Boys Military School.

In Pool-A, St. Ursula School, Akurdi and Shri Anantrao Kulkarni English Medium School (SAKEMS), Narayangaon have 3 points each from 1 encounter, while Jyoti English Medium School, Nehrunagar and BK Birla Centre for Education, Shirgaon are yet to open their account.
