PKL Season 6 to begin from October 5

SPORTS REPORTER

Pune: The popular kabaddi extravaganza moved to winter window due to Asian Games The Season 6 of Pro Kabaddi League will commence on October 5 with the final on January 5, 2019.

The league will continue its existing format and will go on for a duration of 13 weeks, the league’s promoters Mashal Sports announced on Monday. Twelve teams divided into two groups will play 138 matches.

“The change of window for the league from the usual July-October cycle has been done to ensure full availability of top players from India and overseas given that forthcoming Asian Games in Jakarta are scheduled in August,” PKL Commissioner Anupam Goswami said in a statement.

“This window also allows the teams and fans to capitalise on the opportunities afforded by the festive season,” Goswami added.

“We at the Federation are eagerly awaiting the onset of Season VI. Pro Kabaddi has established itself as a highly competitive league and we only expect the competition to get better year on year,” said Mridul Bhaduria, President of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India.

Patna Pirates are the reigning champions after winning third straight title defeating Gujarat Fortunegiants.
