Mumbai: A popular local club cricketer of Mumbai, Aslam Shaikh, passed away at his Andheri West residence on Thursday. He was suffering from a nerve-related illness for a long time. Since several months he was bedridden. He was 47 when he died. Many cricketers like Wasim Jaffer, Ajinkya Rahane, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) President Vijay Patil, ex-secretary PV Shetty had chipped in to raise funds for his treatment when he was hospitalised a couple of months back. Legendary cricketer and former Indian opener Virendra Sehwag also posted a video to motivate Aslam.

Aslam represented Apollo Cricket Club for 18 years and captained it too. He was a seam bowling all-round. To garner support for Shaikh, MCA apex council member Nadim Memon too did a lot of leg work. He is survived by his mother, wife, a son and daughter. His last rites were performed at 7:30 pm on Thursday at Four Bungalows Kabrastan in Andheri West.

He was a well know all-rounder. After his retirement, he became very famous in tennis ball cricket. Many wished that he would have played for Mumbai, but it could not happen.
