As India advances towards becoming a global technology hub, Andhra Pradesh is set to take a major step forward with its Google AI data centre. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday announced that he will lay the foundation stone for the Google AI data centre in Visakhapatnam on April 28. The project, backed by a $15 billion investment from Google, is among the largest foreign direct investments in India and is expected to boost the state’s position in the tech ecosystem.

The proposed facility, with a capacity of 1 gigawatt, will be developed across nearly 600 acres in Tharluwada, Adavivaram, and Rambilli. It is expected to serve as a major hub for AI-driven cloud infrastructure, positioning Visakhapatnam as a key technology gateway in Asia.

Officials said the project will include advanced data storage systems and AI cloud capabilities, supported by submarine cable connectivity to enable direct digital links with global markets. The coastal location is seen as a strategic advantage for international data traffic.

The initiative is part of the state government’s broader push to attract large-scale investments and build a multi-gigawatt digital ecosystem. Companies such as AdaniConneX and Airtel Nxtra are among the partners involved.

The data centre is also expected to generate significant employment opportunities in sectors like artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, and cloud operations, while boosting allied industries and strengthening the state’s economy.

Authorities said the project aligns with the long-term vision of transforming Andhra Pradesh into a major global technology hub under the Viksit Bharat 2047 roadmap.
