Imagine telling your AI assistant to build and test an app and it actually does it on its own. That’s the promise behind Anthropic’s Claude Cowork and Claude Code, which let the AI perform tasks autonomously on your computer. Initially available only for macOS, the San Francisco-based company has now opened the doors to Windows users.

The official Claude account on X confirmed the rollout on Thursday, tweeting: “Computer use in Claude Cowork and Claude Code Desktop is now available on Windows.” This expansion marks a significant step in making AI-powered productivity tools more accessible across platforms, letting more users experience autonomous task execution directly on their machines.

About the "Computer Use" Feature

Computer Use is a Claude capability that allows the artificial intelligence system to carry out autonomous tasks efficiently. With this feature, the AI can open various applications, run tests, move through interfaces, detect bugs, and resolve them independently, without human involvement. Notably, Anthropic says the entire automated workflow can be triggered with just a single prompt.

How to Use Claude’s Computer Feature on Windows

The Windows version of Claude’s computer use works similarly to macOS and is available in the research preview for Claude Max and Claude Pro subscribers via Claude Cowork and Claude Code. The feature requires no special setup, users simply download the Claude app, and the AI can execute tasks autonomously.

Feature Highlights:

  • Available for Claude Max and Claude Pro subscribers on Windows

  • Simple setup: download the app and start using

  • Integrates with Dispatch for smartphone-triggered tasks

  • Requires session permission for security

  • Tasks can be aborted via terminal commands

However, one limitation is that Anthropic has received reports that AI usage quotas are being consumed more quickly than normal and is currently investigating the matter.
