Anthropic says Claude for Word can draft, edit, and revise documents directly from the sidebar. The AI also preserves formatting, while users can track edits as tracked changes.

How to set up Claude for Word

  • Go to the Claude for Word listing on the Microsoft Marketplace

  • Click “Get it now” to install the add-in

  • Open Microsoft Word and enable the add-in (Mac: Tools > Add-ins

    & Windows: Home > Add-ins)

  • Sign in using your Claude account

  • For enterprise users: Administrators must deploy the add-in via the Microsoft 365 Admin Centre across the organisation

“Claude for Word accelerates document work through intelligent assistance. It reads complex multi-section documents, works through comment threads, and edits clauses while preserving your formatting, numbering, and styles,” Anthropic wrote in a Microsoft Marketplace listing.

Key features:

  • Ask questions about documents: Users can query specific parts of a document with clickable citations linking to exact sections.

  • Semantic navigation: Find clauses using prompts like “Find every provision touching data retention.”

  • Iterative editing: Edit selected text while preserving surrounding formatting and structure.

  • Tracked changes: Edits appear as suggested revisions that can be accepted or rejected in Word.

  • Comment-driven editing: Claude resolves comment threads and explains changes.

  • Cross-app functionality: Works with Excel and PowerPoint to transfer or summarise data across apps.
