Apple has introduced the second-generation AirPods Max 2, bringing upgraded noise cancellation, enhanced audio performance, and a suite of new AI-powered features to its premium over-ear headphones lineup.
The latest headphones are equipped with Apple's H2 chip, which the company claims offers up to 1.5 times more efficient Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) than the earlier model. This enhancement is designed to more effectively block out external noises like airplane engines or train sounds, enabling users to concentrate on music, calls, or work.
AirPods Max 2 will be available to order from March 25, with retail availability expected early next month. In India, the headphones are priced at ₹67,900.
The headphones will be available in multiple colours, including midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue. Apple said they are built using recycled materials and come in fully recyclable packaging. The launch further expands its premium audio lineup with a focus on AI and spatial audio.
The H2 chip introduces a variety of new smart features to the headphones like:
Adaptive Audio: Automatically balances noise cancellation and transparency based on surroundings.
Conversation Awareness: Lowers music volume when the wearer starts speaking.
Live Translation: Enables real-time in-person communication across languages using Apple Intelligence.
Voice Isolation: Prioritizes the user’s voice and reduces background noise during calls.
Camera Remote: Use the Digital Crown to take photos or start video recording on an iPhone or iPad from a distance.
Apple claims the latest model offers a more refined and enhanced audio experience, driven by a high dynamic range amplifier and advanced computational audio processing.
Key features include:
Support for 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio via USB-C for high-quality listening across music, movies, and gaming
Lower audio latency, improving responsiveness for gaming on iPhone, iPad, and Mac
Personalised Spatial Audio with head tracking, enabling creators to produce and mix audio, especially with professional tools like Logic Pro
Apple is positioning the AirPods Max 2 for creators and professionals, with support for studio-quality audio recording. The headphones also include features like Loud Sound Reduction to minimise sudden noise, Personalised Volume that adapts to listening habits, and gesture-based Siri controls, allowing users to nod to confirm or shake their head to decline notifications.
