To boost transparency and empower mobile subscribers, Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) have published mobile network coverage maps on their websites, as mandated by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). This initiative allows users to check the coverage of various technologies like 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G in their area, facilitating informed choices about mobile and broadband services.

The maps offer a standardised colour scheme and user-friendly features for easy navigation. Users can manually search their location or enable location services on their device to identify current coverage. A toggle switch or technology selection button allows users to filter by the desired technology type (2G, 3G, 4G, or 5G).

TRAI has consolidated links to these coverage maps on its website, enabling users to access data from various service providers in one place. Users can provide feedback or report discrepancies in coverage representation through integrated tools within the maps.

The revised regulations, "The Standards of Quality of Service of Access (Wirelines and Wireless) and Broadband (Wireline and Wireless) Service Regulations, 2024," became effective on October 1, 2024. While these regulations require service providers to publish geospatial coverage maps for areas where wireless voice or broadband services are available.

Consumers can now make informed decisions about their mobile and broadband services based on actual coverage in their area. These maps provide valuable data for policymakers and stakeholders to assess telecom coverage nationwide, aiding in infrastructure planning and regulatory interventions.

The publication of mobile network coverage maps marks a significant step towards transparency and consumer empowerment in India's telecom sector. Users gain better insights into network availability, this initiative is expected to enhance service quality and satisfaction.
