In a world full of AI-generated videos, where distinguishing real content from convincing deepfakes has become increasingly difficult, Zoom has introduced new safeguards and communication tools for its platform. On Tuesday, March 10, the company announced that it is bringing real-time audio translation to Zoom Meetings, enabling participants to understand speakers in different languages during calls. The video communications platform also unveiled a new feature designed to detect synthetic audio or video during Zoom meetings.
Zoom's live voice translation feature allows users to communicate in their native language, while participants on the call can listen to the translated speech in their chosen language instantly. This feature is presently offered in five languages, with plans to expand support to additional languages in the near future.
The upcoming features for Zoom Meetings are part of several new AI-driven functionalities being introduced to Zoom's enterprise-level services, such as Zoom Workplace, Zoom Phone, and Zoom CX.
Alongside these Zoom Meeting features, the company also introduced a suite of AI-powered office apps such as AI Docs, Slides, and Sheets that can be used to generate document drafts, spreadsheets with data, or presentations based on meeting transcripts and data from other services.
“The next phase of enterprise AI will be defined by the ability to move from conversation to action. Zoom’s agentic AI platform is designed to orchestrate action across systems, turning every meeting, call, and customer interaction into a trigger for workflow automation,” said Velchamy Sankarlingam, president of Product & Engineering at Zoom.
Zoom gained widespread popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic as remote work surged, and has since expanded beyond video conferencing with AI-powered enterprise tools built using models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta.
The company’s new deepfake risk detection feature comes as AI-driven scams continue to rise. Zoom also said its AI avatars will begin rolling out later this month, while Zoom AI Companion 3.0 will soon be available on desktop and integrated with apps such as Slack, ServiceNow, Google Drive, and OneDrive to analyse enterprise data.
Zoom is also enabling users to create no-code AI agents to automate workflows and has introduced new AI APIs for developers, while Zoom Phone is getting agentic workflows and SMS capabilities for its virtual receptionist.
