Karuppu is among the year’s most anticipated films. Featuring Suriya in the lead, this mass action entertainer showcases the actor in a classic, vintage style. Suriya's note for Vijay after landmark win
A week ago, on the day the Tamil Nadu election results were announced, Suriya congratulated Vijay on his remarkable political debut with TVK. The party won a clear majority. Vijay has now joined the ranks of legendary actor-turned-leaders such as NT Rama Rao, MG Ramachandran, and J Jayalalithaa. He was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10.
He wrote on X that being embraced with the love and support of the people is a blessing, noting that the people of Tamil Nadu have immense faith in his friend Vijay, and extended his heartfelt congratulations to Vijay as he embarks on a new chapter in Tamil Nadu politics.
TVK triggered a major political upheaval in Tamil Nadu by defeating both Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the state’s two dominant parties for decades. In its debut assembly election, TVK set a record by winning 108 seats and subsequently secured the backing of 120 MLAs in the 234-member assembly, where the majority mark is 118.
Before contesting his first election, Vijay declined to ally with any national or regional party, even though many of his peers did so. Filmmaker Sundar C entered the fray in partnership with the AIADMK, while Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) formed an alliance with the DMK just ahead of the polls. With Vijay widely seen as a potential future Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, he is expected to step away from his film career. His final movie, Jana Nayagan, still awaits CBFC certification and has been pending since January.
