Katrina Kaif’s recent public appearance at the Ambani family’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Mumbai has triggered a wider conversation about postpartum body image, after social media users focused on changes in the actor’s appearance following the birth of her son in November 2025. Television actor Sonarika Bhadoria subsequently addressed the criticism through Instagram, urging people to show greater compassion towards women after childbirth.

Katrina attended the celebration with husband Vicky Kaushal, marking one of her more prominent public appearances since becoming a mother. While the actor’s outfit and appearance drew attention, online discussion also included comments about her post-pregnancy body. The reactions have since become part of a larger debate about the expectations placed on women, particularly celebrities, to quickly return to their pre-pregnancy appearance.

Sonarika, who became a mother herself in December 2025, responded to the conversation with a message that deliberately extended beyond Katrina. In an Instagram post and story, she said the issue was about every mother getting judges while their body is still healing. She argued that pregnancy and childbirth naturally bring physical changes and that mothers should not be expected to explain or apologise for them.

The conversation has also moved beyond Sonarika. Television actor Shraddha Arya separately responded to the criticism, saying women should not be viewed as “before and after” pictures. NDTV has also examined why postpartum recovery does not follow one fixed timeline, pointing to the physical changes associated with pregnancy, childbirth, hormones, sleep and recovery.

For Katrina, the episode highlights how quickly a celebrity’s physical appearance can become a subject of public discussion. For Sonarika, however, the conversation is larger than one actor. Her message asks whether motherhood should come with an expectation to immediately reclaim an old appearance or whether women should simply be allowed the time and space to recover.
