Pune, 18th September 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food licence of The New Poona Club Limited in Pune’s Camp area after serious food safety and hygiene violations were found during an inspection of its kitchen.
FDA officials found live cockroaches and other pests inside the kitchen. The inspection also revealed rat droppings, stagnant water, greasy surfaces and an unhygienic toilet located near the refrigerator. Several provisions under Schedule 4 of the food safety regulations were also found to have been violated.
The FDA said the unhygienic conditions raised serious concerns about food safety and public health. In view of the violations found at the premises, the department suspended the club’s food licence with immediate effect.
The action was carried out as part of a special food safety inspection campaign conducted by the Pune FDA from September 10 to 15, 2026, ahead of the festive season. During the drive, food establishments across Pune city and district were inspected for compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
The campaign resulted in action against 14 food establishments. The FDA also seized food stock worth ₹56.36 lakh over violations including labelling irregularities, misleading information and suspected adulteration. The department said such inspections would help ensure food safety at establishments serving consumers during the festive season.
