
According to trade figures, the horror comedy 'Thamma' featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna made three times the earnings of the romantic drama 'Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat' starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa on its first day in theaters.
Thamma, a film within Maddock Films' Horror Comedy Universe and featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, grossed Rs 25.11 crore nett on its first day, surpassing the Rs 8.50 crore nett earnings of the romance drama.
Thamma revolves around Alok (Ayushmann Khurrana), a journalist who inadvertently revives Yakshasan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), a leader of the betaal, and becomes enamored with Tadaka (Rashmika Mandanna), an enigmatic betaal.
On Tuesday, the movie experienced an average occupancy rate of 34.5 percent. The morning screenings had a 15.76 percent occupancy, which rose to 39.81 percent in the afternoon and reached a high of 42.91 percent in the evening. However, the occupancy for the night shows decreased to 39.5 percent.
In contrast, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat did not reach double-digit figures on its first day. The movie had an occupancy rate of 39.51 percent. Morning shows recorded 19.76 percent occupancy, which rose to 46.34 percent in the afternoon and reached a high of 47.16 percent in the evening. However, occupancy dropped to 44.76 percent for the night shows.
In the movie, Harshvardhan Rane portrays a man who is profoundly in love with his separated wife, played by Sonam Bajwa. In the teaser, Bajwa cautions Rane that his intense love will eventually lead to his downfall, while Rane insists that Bajwa should not cry even after his death.
