Dr. Pranjal Khewalkar, son-in-law of senior leader Eknath Khadse, was arrested during a police raid in Pune on July 26.
Khadse raised questions about the police action, while Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar defended the raid and denied any misconduct.
Disputes arose over calling the event a "rave party" and over leaked visuals, which the police say they did not release.
Following the arrest of Dr. Pranjal Khewalkar, the son-in-law of senior politician Eknath Khadse, during a late-night police raid in Pune on July 26, a sharp exchange has unfolded between Khadse and city police authorities.
Eknath Khadse held a press conference raising concerns about the police operation and questioning its legitimacy. He argued that the gathering at the raided residence was small and peaceful, and should not be labelled a rave party.
According to him, “There were just five to seven people. No loud music, no dancing, no chaos, how can that be called a rave party?” He demanded clarity from the police on what exactly defines a rave party.
Responding to the allegations, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar firmly defended the operation. He said the raid was carried out lawfully and based on reliable intelligence. “We acted on confidential information and followed all legal procedures,” he stated, adding that details of the operation were shared transparently with the media.
Commissioner Kumar also addressed the issue of photos and videos from the raid circulating online. He clarified that the police did not leak any such material and that if anyone from the public had recorded it, it was beyond their control.
The exchange between the veteran politician and Pune Police highlights the rising tension around high-profile investigations and the public perception of such actions.
