Pune: The Army Institute of Technology (AIT), Pune, will mark its 31st Foundation Day on February 24, 2025, with a grand celebration. As part of the event, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be bestowed upon Dr. Kailasavadivoo Sivan, the former Secretary of the Department of Space and ex-Chairman of the Space Commission, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to India’s space exploration and technology sector.

In addition, Preetpal Singh, an AIT alumnus from the 2002 batch, will receive the Successful Young Entrepreneur Award for his achievements in the business and technology domain. The event will be graced by Lt. Gen. Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, AVSM, GOC-in-C Southern Command, who will serve as the Chief Guest.

Several prestigious awards will also be presented, including:

  • COAS Best All-Round Student Rolling Trophy

  • Rajput Regiment Trophy for Best Innovation

  • Best Research/Consultancy (Faculty)

  • Best Teaching Employee & Best Non-Teaching Employee Awards

  • This was announced by AIT Pune’s Director, Brig (Rtd) Abhay Bhat.

AIT’s Legacy and Growth

The Army Institute of Technology was founded in 1994, inspired by the vision of Gen. B.C. Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, then Chief of Army Staff, to establish an engineering institute catering specifically to the children of Indian Army personnel. These students often face academic disruptions due to frequent transfers and remote postings.

AIT commenced with three engineering streams—Computer Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication, and Mechanical Engineering—each with an intake of 60 students.

Today, the institute has expanded to include five disciplines, namely:

  • Computer Engineering

  • Information Technology

  • Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Automation & Robotics

Additionally, AIT offers a Master’s program in Data Science. The 30-acre residential campus is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to promote the holistic development of students, including various co-curricular and extracurricular clubs.
