Pune: A new, modern library designed to promote reading culture and enhance the city’s academic infrastructure is under construction in Baramati. The Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University’s sub-center and library building is being developed near the Baramati City Police Station, with 70% of the work already completed and the remaining construction progressing rapidly.
Recognizing the decline in reading habits in the digital era, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar initiated the project to provide students with both traditional books and modern digital resources. The library will feature computers with internet access, ensuring students have access to a wide range of academic materials.
The ambitious project, which spans 6,096 square meters and costs ₹45.78 crore, will house a four-story building dedicated to both the library and the Open University’s sub-center. The Public Works Department aims to complete the project soon, with Sunil Patil serving as the consultant and S. S. Sathe Constructions overseeing the construction.
Designed to match international library standards, the facility will cater to a diverse group of readers and students. It is expected to become a landmark for academic and literary activities in the city.
