Pune: A team of seven trekkers, including four teachers, successfully scaled Bhairavgad Fort in Moroshi, Thane district, one of the most challenging and tallest forts in Maharashtra. Their trek was not just a physical feat but also a unique way of celebrating Shiv Jayanti.
The group consisted of Professor Dr. Bansi Kadam, Professor Ashok Tattu, art teacher Vishwas Nikam, and Bajrang Sape, along with adventure enthusiasts Prashant Bharti, Santosh Jadhav, and Ganesh Bhelke. They completed the trek on Wednesday, 19th February.
Bhairavgad Fort is known for its steep vertical rock face, making it one of the most difficult treks in the region. Many adventurers turn back due to the extreme difficulty of the climb. However, with sheer determination and unwavering spirit, this group of trekking enthusiasts successfully reached the summit.
The team embarked on their journey from Bhor on Tuesday, 18th February, traveling by car to the base of the fort. The actual climb began at 6 AM the next day, with the guidance of a local expert. Given the fort’s treacherous terrain, they relied on mountaineering techniques such as rappelling and rock climbing. Essential climbing gear, including helmets, harnesses, safety belts, and ropes, played a crucial role in ensuring a safe ascent.
After an intense climb, reaching the top of Bhairavgad was a moment of triumph. The team described the breathtaking view from the peak as an unforgettable sight. From the summit, they could see the famous Naneghat Pass on one side, the vast Harishchandragad Fort on the other, and the majestic Kalsubai Peak—the highest peak in Maharashtra—in the distance.
Speaking about the experience, Vishwas Nikam shared that successfully completing the trek on the occasion of Shiv Jayanti added to the joy of the celebration. The challenging climb and the magnificent panoramic view made the expedition truly memorable for the entire team.
