A disturbing CCTV recording has emerged capturing the last moments of a 28-year-old engineer who died after plunging into an uncovered drain on a waterlogged road in Noida’s Sector 57 on Thursday morning. The episode has sparked public anger over civic safety and set off a blame game between the Noida Authority and the electricity department regarding the precise cause of his death.The victim, identified as Aryan, was on his way to work in Sector 58 when the fatal accident occurred amid heavy rainfall.
CCTV Shows Fatal Slip On Waterlogged Road
The surveillance video shows Aryan cautiously making his way along a rain-drenched, waterlogged section of road in Sector 57. While walking near the edge, his foot abruptly slips, causing him to tumble into an uncovered drain believed to be about three feet deep.
Initial reports indicate that one of the drain’s covering slabs was reportedly unstable, causing it to collapse under his weight.
Locals Rush To Rescue, CPR Administered
Bystanders at the scene hurried to save Aryan and, after significant effort, succeeded in pulling him out. He was promptly administered CPR and then taken to the district hospital.Despite the rescue attempts, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Electrocution Angle Emerges
The CCTV recording further captures another person trying to assist Aryan but abruptly retreating, seemingly after receiving an electric shock. The footage has sparked concerns that electrical current might have been running through the pooled rainwater.In a statement released on Saturday (July 11), police said that preliminary investigations suggest a short circuit from an electric pole may have allowed an electric current to spread through the waterlogged area, causing Aryan to lose his balance and fall into the drain.
However, officials have not yet definitively determined whether electrocution was the direct cause of his death.
Noida Authority, Power Department Trade Charges
The episode has sparked a verbal clash between the Noida Authority and the electricity department. Officials of the Noida Authority stated that an electric current seeped into the water from a nearby pole, causing Aryan to lose consciousness and then fall into the drain.
The electricity department, however, denied the accusation, asserting that no electrocution occurred and characterizing the incident as the result of heavy waterlogging and an exposed, unprotected open drain.
Family Alleges Civic Negligence
Aryan's family has accused the Noida Authority of negligence, alleging that the drain was left open without adequate safety measures despite the heavy rainfall.
