Pune: In a tragic yet heartwarming incident, a 21-year-old female trainee pilot Cheshta Bishnoi from Rajasthan, critically injured in a road accident, was declared brain-dead while undergoing treatment at Ruby Hall Clinic. In a remarkable act of kindness, her family’s decision to donate her organs has saved the lives of six individuals.
The trainee pilot was involved in a car accident on December 9, while traveling from Baramati to Bhigwan. Two male companions died on the spot, while she was rushed to Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune with severe injuries. Despite all medical efforts, doctors declared her brain-dead during treatment.
Her parents, who traveled from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, to Pune after the accident, made the brave decision to donate her organs. Following counseling sessions, the family consented to the donation on December 18, coordinated by Aarti Gokhale of the Regional Organ Transplant Coordination Committee.
Multiple Lives Saved Through Organ Donation
The donated organs included her liver, heart, kidneys, and pancreas. One kidney, the heart, and part of the liver were transplanted into patients at Ruby Hall Clinic, while the other kidney and pancreas were transplanted at DY Patil Hospital.
In an extraordinary feat, her liver was divided into two parts and successfully transplanted into two separate recipients, thereby benefiting a total of six patients.
A Brave Decision in Difficult Times
Acknowledging the family’s decision, Dr. Prasad Muglikar, Medical Director at Ruby Hall Clinic, said, "The family’s courageous act of organ donation during this tragic time has brought hope and new life to others in need."
