Pune: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, soon after assuming office, signed his first official file, approving ₹5 lakh in medical assistance for a patient from Pune.

The beneficiary, 59-year-old Chandrakant Shankar Kurhade, a resident of Yerawada, is preparing for a bone marrow transplant, a procedure estimated to cost ₹30 lakh.

Kurhade’s wife had applied for assistance through the Chief Minister’s Medical Assistance Fund before the Model Code of Conduct came into effect during the Assembly elections.

The proposal had remained pending due to election restrictions. After the elections, the medical aid department began expediting approvals for pending requests.

The Chief Minister’s decision clears the way for Kurhade’s treatment, with ₹5 lakh being sanctioned from the state’s assistance fund.

The remaining ₹25 lakh required for the procedure will be sourced from charitable organizations. Kurhade is currently receiving treatment at Sahyadri Hospital in Pune.

In addition to this, the newly formed state cabinet has decided to hold a special session in Mumbai on December 7 and 8 for administering oaths to newly elected MLAs. On the third day, the Assembly Speaker will be elected, followed by the Governor's address.
