Pune, 7th August 2025: A case of attempted murder has been registered against Congress leader Gopal Tiwari and six others following a violent altercation in Pune’s Narayan Peth. The incident occurred over the removal of a street banner, leading to a physical clash between two groups and a later attack involving sharp weapons.
According to the complaint filed by Swapnil Ramchandra More, a member of the local group Vinayak Mitra Mandal, the issue began when Yogesh Petkar and Kalatkar, associated with the group, had placed a signboard near the Murlidhar Hotel. On Tuesday, while More was present at the spot, Gopal Tiwari and two others reportedly began removing the board.
When More objected, stating that if the board was illegal, the municipal authorities would handle it, one of the accused, Harshad Shirke, allegedly pushed him and questioned his authority to interfere. The argument escalated, prompting the group to go to the nearby police chowky.
Later that night, three individuals returned and attacked More and another youth with a sickle, causing serious injuries. More stated in his police complaint that the assault was carried out at the direction of Gopal Tiwari.
Four individuals, Mukund Shirke (27), Harsh Shirke (29), Nikhil Jagtap (33), and Abhishek Thorat (22), have been arrested in connection with the attack. Police have launched further investigation into the involvement of others named in the case.
