Daund: In a shocking discovery, a deceased infant and human fetal remains were found discarded in plastic jars near a waste disposal site in the Gopalwadi area of Daund. The incident, which occurred near Jijamata Nagar along the Daund-Kurkumbh National Highway, was first noticed by a waste picker, who found the jars inside a cardboard box near a canal outlet.
Police and Forensic Investigation Underway
The Maharashtra Emergency Response System (Dial 112) was immediately informed, prompting a police investigation. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Bapurao Dadas and Assistant Inspector Nagnath Patil from Daund Police Station inspected the site.
According to DySP Dadas, a preliminary investigation suggests that one jar contained a deceased infant, while seven to eight other jars held human remains. Authorities are now conducting tests to determine whether the infant was stillborn, a premature birth, or delivered full-term.
Forensic Examination and Legal Action
The sealed jars have been handed over to the Sub-District Hospital, where medical officers will conduct a forensic examination and submit a detailed report. Meanwhile, the Daund Police are in the process of filing a criminal case regarding the illegal disposal of human remains.
Concerns Over Illegal Abortions and Medical Waste Disposal
This disturbing discovery has raised serious concerns about illegal abortions and improper disposal of bio-medical waste. The presence of fetal remains in a residential area under the Gopalwadi Gram Panchayat has once again highlighted potential violations by hospitals and clinics in disposing of medical waste.
