Delhi: A disturbing case of suspected civic negligence has emerged from Delhi, where three schoolchildren narrowly avoided death after plunging into an uncovered stormwater drain on their way home from school. The incident took place on Thursday in Jagatpur village, within the jurisdiction of the Wazirabad police station, and CCTV footage of the rescue has since appeared online.
CCTV Captures Terrifying Incident
According to the widely circulated CCTV footage, the children were walking beside the road when they abruptly fell into an open drain. The incident occurred amid a traffic jam, which turned out to be critical, as drivers and pedestrians quickly spotted the children struggling in the water.
An auto-rickshaw driver is said to have immediately jumped into the drain and started pulling the children out. Local residents quickly joined the rescue, and within minutes, all three children were brought to safety. The swift action of the driver and nearby onlookers averted what might have become a serious tragedy.

The episode has once more triggered grave concerns about civic infrastructure and monsoon readiness in the national capital. The widely shared CCTV clip has alarmed social media users, many of whom are asking why such dangerous drains are still left uncovered despite similar incidents in the past. If there had been no traffic congestion or bystanders at the location, the incident might have led to a fatal accident.
