Pune: In a shocking case of loan recovery abuse, two men were arrested for allegedly assaulting a borrower inside his home after he missed an education loan EMI. The incident took place in Pune's Wanawadi area, and a case has also been registered against a private financial institution's manager for his alleged involvement in the unlawful recovery attempt.
The Wanawadi police arrested Aakash Purushottam Sapa (32, resident of Bhavani Peth) and Rishikesh Nagnath Chandanshive (26, resident of Janata Vasahat, Parvati Paytha). Additionally, Harshad Jiman, a manager at the financial institution, has been booked for ordering the attack.
Loan Payment Delay Leads to Assault
According to the 46-year-old complainant, he had borrowed ₹7.73 lakh from a private financial institution in Shivajinagar for his daughter’s education. He had been paying ₹18,000 as EMI every month and had successfully completed 24 installments. However, due to financial difficulties, he missed one EMI.
On March 25, the financial institution allegedly called and verbally abused the borrower, threatening him over the pending payment. The complainant personally visited the office and explained his financial situation. Despite this, on March 27, two bouncers forcibly entered his home in Shantinagar Vasahat, abused and physically assaulted him, and threatened to stay until he made the payment.
After the victim filed a police complaint, the Wanawadi police responded immediately and began an investigation. During questioning, it was revealed that the bouncers had been sent on the instructions of Harshad Jiman, a manager at the financial institution.
Following this, the police arrested the two bouncers and registered a case against the manager. Further investigations are being conducted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Dr. Rajkumar Shinde.
