Pune: In a shocking incident, two young men were caught stopping their luxury car in the middle of Shastrinagar Chowk, Yerawada, and engaging in public indecency while allegedly under the influence of narcotic substances. Police investigation has confirmed that the duo had been partying at a high-end pub in Koregaon Park-Mundhwa Road before the incident.
The accused, Gaurav Manoj Ahuja (25, resident of Sathe Colony, Tilak Road) and Bhagyesh Prakash Oswal (22, resident of Pride Heights Society, Market Yard), have been charged with:
Public nuisance
Indecent behavior in a public place
Obstructing traffic under the Motor Vehicles Act
Violation of prohibition laws
A video of the incident went viral on social media, leading the police to take swift action. Bhagyesh Oswal was arrested on Saturday evening, while Gaurav Ahuja later surrendered at Karad Police Station before being brought to Pune.
Investigation Reveals Drug Consumption
On Sunday, both accused were presented before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) N.S. Bari, where CCTV footage from the pub confirmed that they had consumed narcotic substances before the incident.
During questioning, the accused were uncooperative, giving evasive answers. Police suspect that they may have had accomplices and are investigating who supplied them with drugs and whether someone assisted in their escape.
Court Grants Police Custody
Public Prosecutor Sunita Dange argued that police custody was necessary to determine the source of the narcotics and identify possible accomplices. Defense lawyers Pushkar Durge and Sunil Rampure represented the accused. After hearing both sides, the court ordered police custody for both accused until Monday.
Gaurav Ahuja’s Criminal Record and Escape Attempt
The police informed the court that Gaurav Ahuja has a history of criminal offenses, with previous cases registered against him at Viman Nagar Police Station for extortion, issuing death threats, and illegal gambling.
Instead of surrendering immediately, Gaurav fled to Kolhapur, where he abandoned his luxury car and tried to rent another vehicle from a rickshaw driver. After a brief escape attempt, he arranged for a driver to take him to Pune and even recorded a video apology before turning himself in at Karad Police Station. On Sunday morning, he was medically examined and officially arrested at 8 AM, confirmed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) Himmat Jadhav.
