Pune: Amid concerns over the Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) outbreak, the district administration has initiated water quality testing across Pune district following directives from the state government.
Initial findings revealed that 22 water sources were contaminated, with the majority located in villages recently added to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits.
Key Findings from Water Testing:
So far, 141 water sources have been tested in laboratories.
Among them, 22 sources were found contaminated.
16 of these sources are in areas newly included under PMC, while only six are in rural areas.
This testing drive is being conducted in coordination with the Health Department and the Water and Sanitation Department. Health workers are responsible for sample collection, while the Water and Sanitation Department is overseeing laboratory testing.
Monitoring and Further Actions:
The district administration is monitoring the situation daily.
Daily reports are being submitted to the state government during review meetings.
Water quality testing will now expand beyond affected areas to cover the entire district, ensuring water safety amid the GBS outbreak.
Authorities are urging residents to take necessary precautions and ensure they consume safe, treated water while further investigations are carried out.
