Pune: The number of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) cases in Pune district has risen to 170, with four new cases detected. While 62 patients have recovered and been discharged, 20 remain on ventilators, and 61 are receiving treatment in intensive care units (ICUs).
In the past 15 days, a surge in cases of vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain has been observed across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and rural areas, primarily attributed to contaminated food and water consumption. Concurrently, GBS cases have been rising, with the highest number of patients reported in Dhayari, Nandedgaon, Sinhagad Road, Kirkatwadi, and Khadakwasla.

Out of 170 suspected cases, 132 have been confirmed. The distribution of cases is as follows:
33 cases in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits
86 cases in merged villages
22 cases in Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)
21 cases in Pune rural areas
8 cases in other districts

10 to 19 years: 23 cases
20 to 29 years: 38 cases
30 to 39 years: 21 cases
40 to 49 years: 22 cases
50 to 59 years: 25 cases
60 to 69 years: 14 cases

80 to 89 years: 3 cases
The Sassoon General Hospital has been equipped with essential medications and injections required for GBS treatment. So far, 500 injections have been stocked, with an additional 100 injections supplied by the municipal corporation.
Meanwhile, five patients were discharged on Wednesday (February 5) from Sassoon Hospital, while three patients, including a young child, remain on ventilators, according to Eknath Pawar, Dean of Sassoon Hospital.
