
Pune: A 17-year-old college student was assaulted and robbed of a gold chain worth ₹1 lakh at knifepoint on Hanuman Tekdi, a popular recreational spot in Pune. The Deccan police have arrested three suspects in connection with the incident. Investigations have revealed that the gang was involved in multiple robberies in the area.
The robbery occurred on January 4 around 2 PM when the student, accompanied by a friend, was strolling near Senapati Bapat Road. The suspects assaulted the young woman and snatched her gold chain weighing 20 grams, valued at ₹1 lakh. She reported the incident to the Deccan police station on Monday, January 6. Police Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar visited the scene and initiated an investigation.
For several days, reports of robberies and chain-snatching incidents targeting people visiting Hanuman Tekdi for walks or recreational activities had been increasing. During their investigation, the Pune police apprehended a gang involved in these crimes. Three cases have been registered at the Deccan police station. While investigating the January 4 incident, the police arrested three suspects and recovered stolen goods worth ₹4 lakh.
The investigation revealed that the suspects used a two-wheeler with a distinctive sticker for their operations. Following leads, the police located the vehicle parked near the Pandavnagar police outpost, which led them to the suspects.
The police have registered three cases against the gang at the Deccan police station. So far, stolen goods worth ₹4 lakh have been recovered from the suspects. Police Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar is leading the investigation.
