Pune, 24 July 2025: The water level at Mulshi Dam has reached 79.74% of its storage capacity due to continuous rainfall in the region. As a result, the dam authorities will begin releasing 2,500 cusecs of water into the Mula River starting 2:00 PM on July 24, 2025. Officials have stated that the outflow may be increased or reduced depending on future rainfall and rising water inflows.
A public advisory has been issued asking citizens to stay away from riverbeds. People living near the river are requested to remove animals, equipment, or belongings from the low-lying areas immediately. Local administrations have been directed to inform vulnerable communities and ensure all necessary precautions are taken.
Simultaneously, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Pune for July 24. The forecast predicts extremely heavy rainfall, which could lead to flooding in low-lying areas, traffic issues, and low visibility. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours.
While light to moderate rain is expected in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, the surrounding ghat regions are likely to witness heavy to very heavy downpours. These areas are particularly vulnerable to landslides and flash floods during intense rain events.
