Pune, 24 July 2025: The flyover being constructed between Shiv Kashid Chowk and Hingne on Sinhagad Road is in its final stages and is expected to be opened to traffic on August 15, coinciding with Independence Day. Initially, the Pune Municipal Corporation had planned to open the flyover by June 15, but heavy and continuous rainfall during May and June delayed the construction schedule by two months.

The municipal authorities have now instructed the contractor to ensure the work is completed before the new deadline.

The construction is part of a broader ₹118 crore infrastructure project launched by the Pune Municipal Corporation in 2022 to reduce chronic traffic congestion on Sinhagad Road. Under this initiative, three flyovers were planned. Of these, two have already been completed and inaugurated.

The third flyover, which stretches from Manik Bagh's Shiv Kashid Chowk to the area near the petrol pump at Hingne, is being built at a cost of approximately ₹40 crore. The ramp at Manik Bagh has been fully constructed, and the asphalting work is also complete. On the Hingne side, the ramp is close to completion, marking the last stage of the project.

Despite the progress, local residents are already facing traffic problems near the Hingne ramp. The road narrows significantly at this point, causing daily congestion. Additional complications arise from the presence of a nursery on the pedestrian pathway and a large tree that further restricts vehicle movement.

Furthermore, queues of vehicles waiting at the nearby petrol pump often extend onto the main road, causing major bottlenecks where the flyover ends.

Authorities have yet to take any concrete steps to address these issues. No traffic diversions or pedestrian adjustments have been made in the area so far. A particular concern is that the flyover descends directly in front of the petrol pump’s entrance.

Vehicles coming down from the flyover could suddenly veer left into the pump, increasing the risk of accidents and worsening traffic congestion in the future. Experts and local residents believe that immediate traffic planning and safety measures are necessary to prevent long-term complications.

This 1,540-meter-long flyover is expected to significantly ease daily commuting for thousands of residents from Dhayari, Narhe, Khadakwasla, Anandnagar, Sun City, and Manik Bagh. Once the final phase is operational, it will bring much-needed relief to citizens facing long-standing traffic snarls.

However, the success of the project will depend not only on its completion but also on the resolution of critical traffic management issues at its exit points.
