Pune: A shocking incident has come to light at Savitribai Phule Pune University, where liquor bottles and cigarette packs were discovered in a girls' hostel room. The matter was brought to the attention of the hostel administration, but no action was taken, despite repeated complaints by a student.
Images and videos showing alcohol bottles and cigarette packs inside the hostel room have surfaced, causing widespread concern among students and university authorities.
A student residing in the hostel had informed the women’s hostel warden multiple times, but the administration failed to act. Frustrated with the lack of response, she escalated the issue by writing to the Registrar and the Vice-Chancellor.
One of the most alarming aspects of this incident is that the hostel entrance is secured with biometric access control. Despite these security measures, alcohol and other intoxicants were smuggled into the premises. This raises serious concerns about how such substances are being brought inside the hostel.
ABVP Demands Investigation
Following the revelations, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has formally urged the Vice-Chancellor to set up an inquiry committee to investigate the issue.
The student organization has demanded strict action against those responsible. The presence of alcohol and cigarettes in such large quantities in a women’s hostel is raising serious questions about discipline and security measures on campus.
Some of the liquor bottles found were completely empty, while others still contained alcohol. A large number of cigarette packs were also discovered inside a drawer. The university administration has yet to respond to the matter. Further investigations are expected.
