Pune: The Maharashtra State Government has appointed IAS officer M. J. Pradeep Chandran as the Additional Commissioner of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), filling a post that had been vacant for the past 11 months.
Chandran, a 2012-batch IAS officer, was previously serving as the Additional Development Commissioner at the Directorate of Industries in Mumbai. Over his career, he has held various administrative positions, including:
Additional Commissioner of the Tribal Development Department in Amravati
District Collector of Bhandara
Commissioner of the Textile Department
Managing Director of the Minor Minerals Corporation
The Pune Municipal Corporation has three Additional Commissioner positions, which were previously held by Kunal Khemnar, Ravindra Binwade, and Vikas Thakane. Following their transfers, Prithviraj B.P. was appointed, but the remaining two positions had been vacant since March 2024. Several city representatives had urged the state government to fill these vacancies.
Recently, Mahesh Patil, who was promoted to Additional District Collector, was assigned as an Additional Commissioner at PMC. While he is expected to handle responsibilities similar to those of an Additional Commissioner, the final vacant post has now been officially filled by Pradeep Chandran.
First Administrative Posting in Pune for Chandran
Most of Chandran’s administrative career has been in the Vidarbha region before being posted in Mumbai. This appointment marks his first assignment in the Pune Revenue Division.
Interestingly, PMC had earlier appointed IAS officers Dr. Kunal Khemnar and Ravindra Binwade—both from the 2012 batch—to the Additional Commissioner post. Now, Chandran, also from the same batch, joins the administration in this crucial role.
