In the wake of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, which claimed 26 lives and was linked by India to Pakistan-based militant groups, the Indian government has issued a stern warning to Pakistani nationals residing in India. The government has made it clear that those who do not comply with the order to leave the country by April 27, 2025, will face serious consequences and will have to pay a heavy price.
Following the attack, India has taken a series of strong retaliatory measures against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, closure of the Attari-Wagah border, cancellation of all Pakistani visas, and expulsion of Pakistani diplomats. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has urged all Pakistani nationals currently in India to return to their home country immediately.
The government’s message is unequivocal: Pakistani citizens who fail to leave India voluntarily by the deadline risk legal action, including detention and deportation. Authorities have also warned that non-compliance could lead to more stringent measures, reflecting India’s zero-tolerance policy towards any perceived threat to national security.
This directive is part of India’s broader diplomatic and security response aimed at curbing cross-border terrorism and safeguarding its citizens. The government has also advised Indian nationals to avoid traveling to Pakistan and called on those already there to return at the earliest.
Pakistan, meanwhile, has condemned India’s actions as “irresponsible” and retaliated by suspending trade, closing its airspace to Indian aircraft, and expelling Indian diplomats. The situation remains tense, with both countries exchanging sharp diplomatic and military responses.
